1. - International Beer Day is celebrated by drinking beer with friends.
Beer is considered to be a social lubricant in many societies, and is consumed in countries all over the world. There are breweries in Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria, as well as African countries (see African beer). Sales of beer are four times that of wine, the second most popular alcoholic beverage. In Russia, consumption is on the rise as younger generations are choosing beer over vodka. In most societies, beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage.

• Stout and porter are dark beers made using roasted malts or roast barley, and typically brewed with slow fermenting yeast. There are a number of variations including Baltic porter, dry stout, and Imperial stout.
• Lambic, a beer of Belgium, is naturally fermented using wild yeasts, rather than cultivated.
• Wheat beer is brewed with a large proportion of wheat although it often also contains a significant proportion of malted barley.
• Lager is the English name for cool fermenting beers of Central European origin. Pale lagers are the most commonly consumed beers in the world.
• An ale is commonly defined by the strain of yeast used and the fermenting temperature.
